Turniptown Mountain is a peak you can see from Johnson Lake, and Johnson Lake Dam is a site that is close to Johnson Lake. Stay the night at Diamond Lure Campground, and delightful hiking is available along the Tearbritches Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Best Western Mountain View Inn is a good site to get some rest. Much rainfall falls at Johnson Lake; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain while       October is the month with the least amount of precipitation. There's fine hiking along the Mountaintown Creek Trail, and after a long day outdoors Comfort Inn & Suites is a wonderful location to spend a night or two. Cartecay River is a fine whitewater spot in the neighborhood of Johnson Lake, and while you're here and you like golf, you can visit Whitepath Golf Club &. And if that's not enough, there's a load more to do close to Johnson Lake. Stover Gap                  is a splendid place to explore; hiking is a popular thing to do around Johnson Lake; Bear Creek Trail is a tremendous local trail. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Johnson Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Plum Nelly Campground is a good spot for that; there are other sites here than Johnson Lake, for example Lovejoy Lake. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Johnson Lake with overnight lows in the 60's.
