     If you get bored of James Pond, you could also explore close by Ellis Pond, and there's always Ellis Pond Dam to check out right next door to James Pond. High temperatures at James Pond during the summer are in the 90's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 50's; nighttime lows at James Pond throughout the winter ordinarily drop into the 20's. Jolly Pond is a nearby lake that you could pop by; some of the water  
   close by flows, like Bath Branch. The good people of Augusta-Richmond County like to hang out nearby.
This lake is so wonderful. A wonderful nearby hotel is Country Hearth Inn Augusta, and a great place to camp here at James Pond is Fox Hollow Camp Ground. If you're a golfer then a tremendous close by course is Pointe South Golf Club, and if you need a place to stay Days Inn Augusta / Deans Bridge Road is a wonderful choice. But wait, there's more to do right
 
               next door to James Pond. Savannah River is a tremendous whitewater spot in close proximity to James Pond, and camping at Byron Mobile Home and Camper is always a fine experience.
James Pond sees pretty high levels of rainfall; through March this area sees the most rain; the driest of the months is November.

There are two open spillway dams between the Hwy 28 (Fury's Ferry) Bridge and I-20: Stevens Creek Dam (at the confluence of Stevens Creek) and the Augusta Canal Diversion Dam (about a mile downstream of Stevens Creek Dam). There are no marked access points immediately on either side of either dam. Georgia Power Co. operates an electric generating facility on the Georgia (south) bank at Stevens Creek. At the Canal, since the canal immediately parallels the river some twenty feet above it, there is no river access whatsoever on the Georgia side. Portage would be recommended along private land on the South Carolina side of both dams....
