A visit to Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail is worthwhile, obviously you could also take a look at Iris Lake East since you're here; it's not far at all. Iris Lakes is great enough to spend more than a day at, New Hope Campground is a great local campground, and an afternoon playing golf at Cotton Fields Golf Club is always a delight. Iris Lake East Dam is an attention-grabbing thing to check out, and if you've had enough of Iris Lakes, Davis Lake

Towaliga River is a nice whitewater spot near Iris Lakes, and if you need a location to stay Americas Best Value Inn and Suites/McDonough is a perfect choice. No way I can stop, cause I'm havin' a good time here at Iris Lakes. A glorious location for whitewater paddling near Iris Lakes is South River; if you came to camp Shingle Roof Campground is a great place to do that. Dry warm beds await you at Days Inn McDonough. | |

Beyond the park is unknown territory....Yellow river at Poterdale can get pretty tough after a good rain. Bring your A game!...water from 124 to porterdale is about 3 feet average in the summertime. lots of fun. easy river. clean too. lots of fallen trees in the water, great wildlife, snakes, turtles and fish. the dam in porterdale is easily passed adn the rapids following are verry shallow. email at coadydraven@yahoo.com with questions.... |
