Lake Qualatchee
16 miles away I notice that there is a Lake Qualatchee a few miles northwest of Cleveland, Georgia. I have never visited the site. Bartram's list of Cherokee towns included a ''Qualatche,'' but it was reportedly on the Flint River, too far away to have a connection with this lake. But, Mooney says a town called Qualatchee was somewhere on the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River. Not much else seems to have been written about the town, and I am not yet sure how the lake came to have its name....

Stonecypher Lake
18 miles away ...es are constant except in times of heavy rainfall and original life of lake was projected to exceed 100 years. Silt accumulation after 20 years was approximately .5 inche. Normal elevation is apporximately 800'. Feeder streams maintain lake levels even during extended periods of insufficient rainfall and at the same time provide spill into the exiting stream bed. The lake has been pulled down during periods of heavy construction of highways across the feeder streams to allow silt to return to the streams and pass thru thedrain gates. Buena Vista Dr crosses the lake in two places; one being the main dam and again on the Coe Branch inlet. Original construction of dams accommodated these crossings. Over the years sport fishing has been excellent with large mouth Bass, Crappie, Brem, Pike And Catfish, however fishing is limited due to private ownership of property including the lake basin. The shorelines and surounding hills are populated with native hardwoods and pine, creating scenery which is unsurpassed in the area. Wild turkey, deer, beaver, groundhog, cayote, fox...
Enota Resort and Campground
19 miles away ...in retreat - it is a vision for how we should honor the land and each other. My husband, definitely NOT the camper type, loves this place because of its natural beauty, peaceful atmosphere and the ever-present babbling brook(s) that borders most of the campsites. We have camped here in our camper van several times in the past 3 years and love to hike up to the AT and the waterfalls, or watch the kids fish for trout in the pond in front of the Lodge The land is pristine, laced with waterfalls and streams totally accessible to both RV camping (full hook-ups) or tent camping. The cabins are rustically charming and recently more modern motel-type rooms have been added within view of the waterfall. Some of the structures on this property are CCC-built and the staff also honors Enota's Cherokee heritage as well, with a sweat lodge, sacred circle, drumming and the occasional Native American presenter, who happened to be leading the Sweat Lodge ceremonies when we were there this spring. We discovered that Enota is a non-profit ecological and teaching facility as well, and we campers and ...
