If you like lakes and you're in this part of Georgia you can check out Chitwood Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Camping at Nelly Plum Campground is always a pleasant experience; dry warm beds await you at Best Western Fairwinds Inn & Suites. If you're here at Chitwood Lake, you could have a look at Flat Branch, and whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Mountaintown Creek. Summertime highs at Chitwood Lake regularly tend

| | to be in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 60's. All through the wintertime the highs are commonly in the 40's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Chitwood Lake plunge into the 20's. Mountaintown Watershed Lake Number Three is a nearby lake that you could take a look at, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Chitwood Lake; Bear Creek Trail is a good local trail. Campground is a nice place to do that, and do take a hike on the Emery Creek Trail. All the water falling down from the sky makes Chitwood Lake a wet place; through March this area sees the most rain while October is regularly the
driest month. Yeah, come here to Chitwood Lake for a tremendous time. Chitwood Lake Dam is wonderful and it's near Chitwood Lake, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Mountaintown Creek Trail. This lake is so wonderful.
A lake close by is Miller-Grindley Pond, and after a long day outdoors Best Western Mountain View Inn is a tremendous site to spend a night or two.

Lake Conasauga Campground
 | 11 miles away ... camping and hosting at Lake Conasauga for the last few years I am very upset about the way people are treating the facilities offered there. As this area grows in popularity, and more and more people use it, I am saddened by the way this beautiful lake and mountian is being abused and trashed. The catch phrase ''Leave only your footprints'' applies to all US National Forests for a reason. One can only assume that you use this camping area for it's beauty and freshness, so why then do so many people leave it in such a mess? To have to pick up over 50 bags of trash, often left scattered about after a non-holiday weekend, is unreasonable. I don't mean to rant or nag, but, it isn't that hard to put a grocery bag in you pocket when fishing along the lake trail and walk out with the trash you create. The hosts in most camp grounds are volunteers and are unpaid. They pay for all of their own expenses to be there in order to keep the grounds and restrooms clean and stocked. So, PLEASE, read and obey the rules posted. Few places are as beautiful as our National Parks, please lets all make th... |
