Poplar Springs Campgrounds is a wonderful local campground, and soar down the rapids of Rice Creek in a kayak. You're sure to bump into some friendly people from Toccoa here. Brooks Lake gets a lot of water; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain while October is the month with the least amount of precipitation. A beautiful lake like Alston Lake right next door to Brooks Lake is a great site to stop at, and get yourself into a kayak

LAVONIA is a nice spot to spend a night or two; not far from Brooks Lake you get some magnificent water scenery at Brays Lake Dam. Through the months of summer, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Brooks Lake. When the night sets
in temperatures plunge down into the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 50's with temperatures at Brooks Lake dipping down into the 20's through winter nights.

Stonecypher Lake
 | 13 miles away ...n the foothills of the Smokie Mountains. It is fed by Freeman Creek, McAvoy Branch and Coe Branch. This lake is located on the farm lands of Palmer Simpson Stonecypher and was constructed in the mid 1950's. The shorelines are constant except in times of heavy rainfall and original life of lake was projected to exceed 100 years. Silt accumulation after 20 years was approximately .5 inche. Normal elevation is apporximately 800'. Feeder streams maintain lake levels even during extended periods of insufficient rainfall and at the same time provide spill into the exiting stream bed. The lake has been pulled down during periods of heavy construction of highways across the feeder streams to allow silt to return to the streams and pass thru thedrain gates. Buena Vista Dr crosses the lake in two places; one being the main dam and again on the Coe Branch inlet. Original construction of dams accommodated these crossings.
