Summertime highs at Big Lake regularly tend to be in the 80's while overnight lows are generally in the 60's. For the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 50's while the cold winter nights at Big Lake are in the 20's. This lake is so wonderful. After a long day outdoors Foundry Park Inn And Spa is a brilliant spot to spend a night or two, also Big Lake Dam is worth taking a look at since you're       here. Why not camp at Oconee River Campground and Picnic Area while you're here at Big Lake; whitewater paddling is great on Broad River. A great close by hotel is Comfort Suites Athens, and if you don’t have a problem getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Big Clouds Creek. Lakes are such serene spots, why not go to Oliver Lear Lake close to Big Lake, and the Scull Shoals Trail is a good hiking trail nearby. Man, is there heaps                  of entertaining things to do in close proximity to Big Lake. On a fine day at Big Lake you can take a hike along the Mounds Trail, and this is a popular site for folks from Athens-Clarke County. All the water falling down from the sky makes Big Lake a wet place; March is the wettest month with most rain while September is the month with the least amount of precipitation. This lake is so wonderful.
