     If you don't mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Savannah River, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always explore nearby Hickory Lake. The high level of precipitation makes Bennett Lake a pretty wet spot; January is when you get the most rain here, and the driest of the months is October. All the outdoors enjoyable things in close proximity to Bennett Lake will keep you coming back repeatedly. Dry warm beds  
   await you at Days Inn Thomson, and if you're here, you could have a look at Harris Branch. During the warm days of summer at Bennett Lake highs are commonly in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 50's, and all through the dark hours in the wintertime at Bennett Lake temperatures fall to the 20's.
If you need a place to stay Knights Inn Thomson is a glorious choice. Lakes are delightful; Casaga Lake
 
               is a lake that's in close proximity to Bennett Lake. There's some attention-grabbing stuff to catch a glimpse of at Bennett Dam near Bennett Lake. There's great hiking along the Turkey Creek Hiking Trail. There's so much to do here at Bennett Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Mistletoe State Park is a magnificent site for that.
This lake is so wonderful. Stevens Creek is a nice whitewater spot close to Bennett Lake, and if you came to camp White Oak Campground is a nice site to do that.

There are two open spillway dams between the Hwy 28 (Fury's Ferry) Bridge and I-20: Stevens Creek Dam (at the confluence of Stevens Creek) and the Augusta Canal Diversion Dam (about a mile downstream of Stevens Creek Dam). There are no marked access points immediately on either side of either dam. Georgia Power Co. operates an electric generating facility on the Georgia (south) bank at Stevens Creek. At the Canal, since the canal immediately parallels the river some twenty feet above it, there is no river access whatsoever on the Georgia side. Portage would be recommended along private land on the South Carolina side of both dams....
