     Ashmore Lake is a spot with many visitors from Gainesville, and it's a great idea to check out Daves Creek. You're possibly into lakes, Upper Ashmore Lake is one of those nearby. Why not camp at Sawnee Campground if you're here at Ashmore Lake; if you want to play some golf, you're in luck because Sugar Hill Golf Club is nearby. This lake is so wonderful. This is a great area for people who like lakes. Sims Lake is a lake around here, and a magnificent site  
   for whitewater paddling is Settingdown Creek.
At Ashmore Lake all through the summertime months highs are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 60's. Highs through the winter are commonly in the 40's, and overnight lows at Ashmore Lake during the wintertime generally dip into the 20's. While you're here at Ashmore Lake you can take a hike along the Brookshire Creek Trail, and Ashmore Lake Dam is a place that is right next
 
               door to Ashmore Lake. Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is a fine local destination here at Ashmore Lake, and Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites ATLANTA-JOHNS CREEK is a glorious site to get some rest.
This lake is so wonderful. A great place to pop by near Ashmore Lake is Fish Weir Shoals, and dry warm beds await you at Hampton Inn Cumming GA. You absolutely ought to fancy Ashmore Lake. Yellow River is a magnificent whitewater spot in the vicinity of Ashmore Lake, and if you came for an overnight stay Twin Lakes Park is a great place to camp. Ashmore Lake is a relatively wet place usually with a large amount of precipitation; March is when you get the most rain here while June is mostly the driest month.

Simmons Lake

My father had a home in the Echo Lake subdivision in the 1960's and the way I remember what happened to Simmons Lake was that that after Lakeside High School was built the earthen dam that held back Simmons Lake broke and that was pretty much the end of the lake. It wasn't repaired. The small lake next to Briarcliff Road was a separate lake that was fed from Simmons lake and in turn fed Echo Lake. This small lake appears from an aerial photograph to have nearly silted in. The culvert under Briarcliff Road from the small lake to Echo Lake was a favorite haunt for chasing snakes and turtles. I remember Echo Lake being dredged in the 1960's. Back then there was little Echo Lake at the other end of Echo Lake and it no longer exists. Little Echo Lake had a concrete dam that failed a couple of times and I suppose was given up on. The homes in Echo Lake subdivision sold in the 20-25K range. This area was a perfect place for my brother and me to spend summers. Dad told me years later that he wouldn't see us until dinner time in the summer because we spent all day doing things around these la...
