     Do have a look at Alston Lake Dam since you're here at Alston Lake, and paddling on Broad River is so much fun. If you need a place to stay Ramada Limited Royston is a pleasant choice. Lakes are tremendous; Alston Lake is a lake that's near Alston Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Rice Creek has a magnificent whitewater paddling spot close by, and not far from Alston Lake you'll hit upon Brooks Lake which is a pretty lake. Throughout the months of summer,  
   highs generally are in the 80's at Alston Lake. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's; nighttime lows at Alston Lake throughout the winter typically sink into the 20's.

Stonecypher Lake

...vate lake located 5 miles south of Toccoa Ga in the foothills of the Smokie Mountains. It is fed by Freeman Creek, McAvoy Branch and Coe Branch.
This lake is located on the farm lands of Palmer Simpson Stonecypher and was constructed in the mid 1950's.
The shorelines are constant except in times of heavy rainfall and original life of lake was projected to exceed 100 years. Silt accumulation after 20 years was approximately .5 inche. Normal elevation is apporximately 800'. Feeder streams maintain lake levels even during extended periods of insufficient rainfall and at the same time provide spill into the exiting stream bed.
The lake has been pulled down during periods of heavy construction of highways across the feeder streams to allow silt to return to the streams and pass thru thedrain gates.
Buena Vista Dr crosses the lake in two places; one being the main dam and again on the Coe Branch inlet. Original construction of dams accommodated these crossings.
