     In the event that you don't mind getting soaked, you can always go whitewater paddling on Broad River, and perhaps you're looking for close by lakes? Sure, Alston Lake is just a very short distance away. Much precipitation falls at Alston Lake; March is the month that gets the most rain while October is the month with the least amount of precipitation. At Alston Lake throughout the summertime highs are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures drop  
   down into the 60's. Highs all through the winter are mostly in the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for Alston Lake. Rice Creek is a nice whitewater spot near Alston Lake; why not camp at Victoria Bryant State Park since you're here at Alston Lake.
So many exciting things to do here at Alston Lake, too fine to be true. Some of the water nearby flows, like Carlan Creek; if you came for an overnight stay Poplar Springs Campgrounds is a delightful spot to camp.
 
               Alston Dam is an attention-grabbing thing to check out, and dry warm beds await you at Hampton Inn Commerce. If you're visiting Alston Lake from Toccoa, you won't be the only one.
This lake is so wonderful. You're probably addicted to lakes, Brooks Lake is one of those nearby, and Ramada Limited Royston is a brilliant site to get some rest.

The shorelines are constant except in times of heavy rainfall and original life of lake was projected to exceed 100 years. Silt accumulation after 20 years was approximately .5 inche. Normal elevation is apporximately 800'. Feeder streams maintain lake levels even during extended periods of insufficient rainfall and at the same time provide spill into the exiting stream bed.
The lake has been pulled down during periods of heavy construction of highways across the feeder streams to allow silt to return to the streams and pass thru thedrain gates.
Buena Vista Dr crosses the lake in two places; one being the main dam and again on the Coe Branch inlet. Original construction of dams accommodated these crossings.
Over the years sport fishing has been excellent with large mouth Bass, Crappie, Brem, Pike And Catfish, however fishing is limited due to private ownership of property including the lake basin.
The shorelines and surounding hills are populated with native hardwoods and pine, creating scenery which is unsurpassed in the area. Wild turkey, deer, beaver,...
