Connecticut has many beautiful lakes and Welles Pond is one of them. This lake is so wonderful. This lake is so wonderful. There's whitewater on Farmington River - Collinsville for all you adrenaline rush seekers; close by you find the Tunxis Trail which is a wonderful hiking trail. This lake is so wonderful. Everybody nearby loves skiing at Mount Southington, and after a long day outdoors Avon Old Farms is a good location to spend a night or two. You get

| | a good view of Avon Mountain from Welles Pond; why not explore a swamp like Hart Meadow since you're here at Welles Pond. Welles Pond sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain; February is when it's the driest. Talcott Reservoir Diversion Dike is worth a visit since you're here; a round of golf at nearby Blue Fox Run Golf Course is a delightful way to kill some time. cool stuff the area near Welles Pond has to offer. Going to Talcott Mountain State Park next to Welles Pond is a great thing to do, and if the weather is splendid, you can go for a hike along the Metacomet Trail. Welles Pond really
is in the middle of a stunning outdoors paradise. Lakes? Sure, Talcott Reservoir is around here, and the Mattabesset Trail is a good hiking trail nearby. Newton Brainard Forest is a wonderful forest vicinity near Welles Pond; dry
warm beds await you at Residence Inn By Marriott Hartford Avon. The slopes of Ski Sundown are so inviting noone can resist, and Welles Pond is great enough to spend more than a day at, Golden Acres Campground is a great local
campground. Through the days of summer, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Welles Pond; the nighttime is a tad cooler of course, typically in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's while Welles Pond overnight low temperatures
during the winter are in the 10's. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Farmington River, and Hartford Reservoir Number 6 is a great lake nearby. You're sure to run into some good people
from Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford here. There's so much to do here at Welles Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Camp Eagle Feather is a good place for that.

Metacomet Trail
 | Gene, The trailhead at 315 and 189 is actually on Mountain Road which comes off the Rd right at the juncture. The telphone poles are blazed and the trail breaks into the woods about halfway up on the right side of the road. That is a nice section of trail although we hiked it in the rain. Happy Trails....I am having difficulty locating the trail head in East Granby at rtes. 315 and 189 that leads to south toward Penwood State Park. The trail maps say that the trail head is on Mountain Road, but there are no blue/yellow blazed trail markers on either of the two entry points into the woods. The only indication of the trail is the sign post at the bottom of the road in the three way intersection. Thanks.... |
