Millpond is a place with many visitors from New Haven-Milford. Hotchkiss Cove Beach is a beach close to Wards Millpond that you can explore; Linsley Pond is a nearby lake that you could stop at. This lake is so wonderful. At Wards
Millpond you can see Baldwin Hill, and skiing at Powder Ridge is one of those things you just should do. There's so much to do here at Wards Millpond that you need to camp here for a while, Hammonasset Beach State Park is a nice place
for that, and going for a hike on the West Woods Trail is always a magnificent adventure. Wards Millpond is near Wards Millpond Dam which is a beautiful place positively worth going to, and if you came to camp Riverdale Camp Sites
is a wonderful spot to do that. This lake is so wonderful. Really tremendous skiing awaits you at Mount Southington. This lake is so wonderful. Beaches are nice; and Hotchkiss Grove Beach next to Wards Millpond is no exception, and
of course, everybody loves Wharton Brook State Park. Wards Millpond in fact is in the middle of a beautiful outdoors paradise. Good hiking is available along the Washington Trail, and obviously Notch Hill Brook is a scenic stream that is worth visiting.

Maltby Lake
 | 13 miles away Call the Regional Water Authority and ask for Anita in Recreation, 203-624-6671. She'll set you up with a permit. Or you can go online, www.rwater.com. Maltby Lakes are made up of three lakes located off of Route 34 in West Haven. The permit also gives you access to Lake Saltonstall and Lake Chamberlain for fishing. Lake Chamberlain
 | 14 miles away Access only with Regional Water Authority permit (25$/year). Off Rt. 69, turn down Morris Road at Bethany/Woodbridge border. Left at stopsign onto dirt road, second gated entrance on right. Fishing, hiking/running, horseback riding. Good sized lake for the area, however boating is strictly forbidden. Gorgeous, peaceful surroundings (no houses), and wildlife abounds. The deer often tolerate people closeby. The fishing can be good for the experienced bass fisherman willing to hike around to the various small, scattered areas where casting is possible. These spots are often choked with brush so accurate casting, texas-rigged soft plastic baits, and at least 8lb test line are a must. I've caught a few 4-5lb bass and some good sized pickerel.... |
