If you get bored of Turtle Pond, you could also pop by nearby Mamanasco Pond; here at Turtle Pond you can distinguish Ned Mountain. Turtle Pond is wonderful enough to spend more than a day at, Mountain Workshop is a wonderful local campground; if you come at the right time of year, East Aspetuck River offers some fine whitewater. This lake is so wonderful. Float down the rapids of Norwalk River in a kayak, and camping at Kettletown State Park is always a tremendous

| | experience. Lots of rainfall falls at Turtle Pond; during May this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is January. The skiing at Thunder Ridge is perfect; of course Mopus Brook flows through this region. Throughout the summer months here at Turtle Pond, high temperatures frequently reach the 80's with overnight lows in the 60's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Turtle Pond are in the 10's. | |

Don't leave Turtle Pond without stopping by Seth Low Pierrepont State Park Reserve, and Mamanasco Lake is a nearby lake that you could go to. A round of golf at nearby Ridgefield Golf Course is a glorious way to kill some time,
and at Mamanasco Lake Dam in close proximity to Turtle Pond there are some exciting things to see. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the cool stuff at Turtle Pond. The friendly folks of Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown
like to hang out close by, and after a long day outdoors SpringHill Suites Danbury is a splendid place to spend a night or two. I can't stop, cause I'm havin' a fine time here at Turtle Pond. This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm

 | 15 miles away ...ristmas the people of the surrounding lk. There were none on the east side of the lake at the time. Well we would collect our Christmas trees around fifty or so and dig them into the ice about forty ft apart and make two rows . Then we would all set a time and light em,, and we would skate , fish ,whatever the lines of trees ran from the n.west dock to the east..the clam bakes were held at the other lk..haven just up the stream that ran along my house..After the dam broke from lk haven the water flooded down into our house..What a flood..seems after that we sold the house to a fireman ,,and then our course by accident the house burnt down ,,and I thought fireman were supposed to put out fires not start em .hello to all that still prevail on chestnut ridge. yea I also went to school with Henry Winkler.. And back then we used to trick or treat all the way down to route six..camp sycamore well I still have my green card with the red paper wonder if its still good..the camp was but a lake with a cottage or two..and a cool as heck dirt road..I went to Austin rd elem.my age now is forty ni... |

The land was sold a while ago and now has a housing development on it....Lillian Wald had a camp on secor lake .Camp Henry.i am fortune enough to have been born on the block where Lillian started the henry street settlement. Ella Fohs Camp Pond
 | 19 miles away I attended Ella Fohs as a camper and a counselor. The time was early 1950s - 1955...I was at the camp from 1963-1969. It shaped my childhood. My mother was there when she was a kid too. I found her name carved into one of the bunks on the rafters: Sydell Freiman 1949! Shame it's not used anymore for innercity poor kids, like we were. Ellen Knebel...I'm sad to hear that the camp itself is not there any more. I worked there in 69-73...I began working on ''the senior side'' and we livrf in ''the mansion'' for one summer. ...There was a house at the middle of the camp itself where the camp director lived.
