down it drops down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's; overnight lows in the 10's for South Reservoir. South Reservoir sees pretty high levels of precipitation; the month with most of the rain is May while February
is commonly the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. South Reservoir is a spot with many visitors from Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford, and at South Reservoir you can see Burnt Hill. A wonderful nearby hotel is Homewood Suites
Farmington, and skiing at Mount Southington is one of those things you just must do. South Reservoir is right by the Tunxis Trail; if you've had enough of South Reservoir, Hartford Reservoir Number 1 is close by. This lake is
so wonderful. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Mattabesset Trail, and you can never get enough of the tremendous skiing at Powder Ridge. Be careful coming to South Reservoir, you might not ever wanna go back home again. You're
perhaps keen on lakes, Hartford Reservoir Number 5 is one of those nearby, and a wonderful location for whitewater paddling is Farmington River.

Metacomet Trail
 | Gene, The trailhead at 315 and 189 is actually on Mountain Road which comes off the Rd right at the juncture. The telphone poles are blazed and the trail breaks into the woods about halfway up on the right side of the road. That is a nice section of trail although we hiked it in the rain. Happy Trails....I am having difficulty locating the trail head in East Granby at rtes. 315 and 189 that leads to south toward Penwood State Park. The trail maps say that the trail head is on Mountain Road, but there are no blue/yellow blazed trail markers on either of the two entry points into the woods. The only indication of the trail is the sign post at the bottom of the road in the three way intersection. Thanks.... |
