Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend Norwalk River, and you can stay the night at Mountain Workshop. Spectacle Swamp Dam has splendid water scenery and it's near Sheffield Pond. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Sheffield Pond has to offer, you can camp       at Kettletown State Park. Hendersons Pond is a nearby lake that you could visit, and if you're a golfer then a good nearby course is Pound Ridge Golf Club. What a spot this is for outdoors people. If you're dropping by Sheffield Pond from Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown, you won't be the only one, and after a long day outdoors Roger Sherman Inn (Le) is a perfect spot to spend a night or two. This lake is so wonderful. You can make out Bald Hill from Sheffield                  Pond, and a journey to Seth Low Pierrepont State Park Reserve invigorates the soul. This lake is so wonderful. East Branch Comstock Brook is a good site to stop at, and a tremendous close by hotel is Days Inn Ridgefield. Sheffield Pond sees pretty high levels of rain; during May this area sees the most rain; January on the other hand is the driest. While you're here at Sheffield Pond, you could also stop at stunning Spectacle Swamp, and there's whitewater on East Aspetuck River for all you adrenaline rush seekers. For the period of the summertime months at Sheffield Pond temperatures are generally in the 80's. Summer overnight lows dip down to the 60's. All through the winter this place gets highs in the 30's, and overnight lows through the winter for Sheffield Pond tend to be in the 10's.
