Not far from Rainbow Pond, you'll come across Silver Birch Pond which is a charming lake, and camping at Southwick Acres Campground is always a brilliant experience. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors exciting stuff the area close to Rainbow Pond has to offer. 0's overnight here at Rainbow Pond. This lake is so wonderful. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Farmington River; since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always take a look at close by Spring Dam Pond. Hit the slopes
at Powder Ridge in the neighborhood. If you want a little side spree, try Hathaway Hollow, and after a long day outdoors Sheraton Bradley Airport Hotel is a nice site to spend a night or two. At Rainbow Pond you can distinguish
Lighthouse Hill, and there are plenty of folks from Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford here at Rainbow Pond. Going for a hike on the Metacomet Trail is always a perfect adventure, and Rainbow Pond is great enough to spend more than
a day at, Golden Acres Campground is a great local campground. This lake is so wonderful. Why not stop by nearby Rainbow Brook since you're here at Rainbow Pond, and if you come at the right time of year, Little River offers some great whitewater.

Metacomet Trail
 | 10 miles away Gene, The trailhead at 315 and 189 is actually on Mountain Road which comes off the Rd right at the juncture. The telphone poles are blazed and the trail breaks into the woods about halfway up on the right side of the road. That is a nice section of trail although we hiked it in the rain. Happy Trails....I am having difficulty locating the trail head in East Granby at rtes. 315 and 189 that leads to south toward Penwood State Park. The trail maps say that the trail head is on Mountain Road, but there are no blue/yellow blazed trail markers on either of the two entry points into the woods. The only indication of the trail is the sign post at the bottom of the road in the three way intersection. Thanks.... |
