     If you like swamps, you're in luck, Pond Meadow is right close by; here at Messerschmidt Pond you can catch a glimpse of Bushy Hill. And if that's not enough, there's heaps more to do in the vicinity of Messerschmidt Pond. You can run the rapids of Hammonasset River next to Messerschmidt Pond; skiing at Powder Ridge is one of those things you just ought to do. This lake is so wonderful. Messerschmidt Pond is perfect enough to spend more than a day at, River  
   Road Campground is a perfect local campground, and West Beach is relatively close by if you're in a beach type of mood. All the water falling down from the sky makes Messerschmidt Pond a wet site; most of the rain falls throughout May; February is when it's the driest.
And if you're still looking for more outdoors enjoyable things just keep reading. There are other places here than Messerschmidt Pond, for example Ortners Pond; you can go for a hike on the
 
               West Woods Trail. Going for a hike on the Mattabesset Trail is always a great adventure, and not far from Messerschmidt Pond you'll stumble on Wrights Pond which is a picturesque lake. A tremendous location to camp here at Messerschmidt Pond is Wolf's Den Family Campground, and since you're here at Messerschmidt Pond, checking out The Ledges is a must.
This lake is so wonderful. All through the warm months highs here at Messerschmidt Pond reach the 80's while night lows are usually in the 60's. All through the winter the highs are usually in the 30's with temperatures at Messerschmidt Pond dipping down into the 10's all through winter nights. After a long day outdoors A Victorian Village Inn is a fine site to spend a night or two, and fine hiking is available along the Washington Trail.
This lake is so wonderful. A round of golf at nearby Hillside Links Golf Course is a wonderful way to kill some time, and if you want to hit the beach, Grove Beach is in the neighborhood. Salmon River is a fine whitewater spot right next door to Messerschmidt Pond, and if you need a location to stay Waters Edge Resort and Spa is a good choice. Selden Neck State Park is a tremendous location to go if you're at Messerschmidt Pond, and not far from Messerschmidt Pond you get some pleasant water scenery at Messerschmidt Pond Dam.

THe fishermen aren't nice here, especially in the Fly fishing area, we caught a lot of heck from them last year. MAde the trip no fun, I won't return.
