There's great hiking along the Tunxis Trail, and the slopes of Ski Sundown are so inviting nobody can resist. White Pines Campground is a good campground nearby; after a long day outdoors Days Inn - Torrington is a good place to spend a night or two. Highland Lake is a nearby lake that you could have a look at; you get a tremendous panorama of Panorama Hill from here. Summertime highs at Mad River Reservoir mostly tend to be in the 80's. | | fall down to the 50's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Mad River Reservoir are in the 0's. What would winter be without some skiing at Otis Ridge. This place rules, just explore all the cool things to do right next door to Mad River Reservoir. It's a great idea to go to Colebrook Brook, it's near Mad River Reservoir, and not far from Mad River Reservoir you get some brilliant water scenery at Mad River Dam. | |

Mad River Reservoir sees pretty high levels of rain; most of the rain falls through August; January meanwhile is the driest month. Burr Pond State Park is both wonderful and delightful, and it's near Mad River Reservoir; whitewater
paddling is tremendous on Still River. Any time is a tremendous time at Mad River Reservoir if you like the outdoors. In case you don’t have a problem getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Sandy Brook
River; if you came for an overnight stay Laurel Crest Campground is a nice site to camp. This lake is so wonderful. Do schedule some time to take a look at First Bay right next door to Mad River Reservoir if you have a chance, and
Indian Meadow is an out of the ordinary swamp close to Mad River Reservoir. If you get bored of Mad River Reservoir, you could also pop by nearby Crystal Lake, and since you're here you will meet lots of folks from close by Torrington.
This lake is so wonderful. Good hiking is available along the Mattatuck Trail; Quality Inn & Suites is a good place to get some rest.
