One of the dominant traits of the surroundings of Lake Whitney is East Rock; there's some out of the ordinary stuff to catch a sight of at Lake Whitney Dam near Lake Whitney. A wooded vicinity next to Lake Whitney is College Woods; Omni New Haven Hotel is a great site to get some rest. There's just no way anyone can get bored here at Lake Whitney. If you get bored of Lake Whitney, you could also go to close by Mix Pond, and there's good hiking along the Quinnipiac
Trail. If you need a place to stay The Historic Mansion Inn is a good choice. There's so much to do here at Lake Whitney that you need to camp here for a while, National Computer Camps is a fine site for that.
This lake is so wonderful. The cheerful folks of New Haven-Milford like to hang out close by, and Lake Whitney is right by the Naugatuck Trail. Summertime highs at Lake Whitney usually tend to be in the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures

are in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's, and night lows in the 10's for Lake Whitney. This lake is so wonderful. You have to absolutely take a look at pretty West Silver Sands Beach since you're here at Lake Whitney; West Rock Ridge State Park is a good place.
A round of golf at nearby Laurel View Country Club Golf is a brilliant way to kill some time, and Mount Southington is a glorious local ski area. This lake is so wonderful. The slopes of Powder Ridge are so inviting nobody can resist; if you came to camp Gentile's Camp Ground is a wonderful spot to do that. Grape Vine Point is rather in close proximity to Lake Whitney, and some of the water close by flows, like Little River.
All the water falling down from the sky makes Lake Whitney a wet place; through the month of May you get the most rain around here; February is when it's the driest. Any time is a great time at Lake Whitney if you fancy the outdoors. A short trip to Ball Spring is always worthwhile, and Shell Beach is a wonderful beach to stop by. A lake nearby is Web Shop Pond, and the Regicides Trail offers hiking at its best.

Maltby Lake
Call the Regional Water Authority and ask for Anita in Recreation, 203-624-6671.  She'll set you up with a permit. Or you can go online, www.rwater.com.  Maltby Lakes are made up of three lakes located off of Route 34 in West Haven.  The permit also gives you access to Lake Saltonstall and Lake Chamberlain for fishing.  There is much more than fishing but you can start off there. Good Luck!...I am looking for directions, so I can go fishing my girl says it is a beautiful spot....

Lake Chamberlain
Access only with Regional Water Authority permit (25$/year). Off Rt. 69, turn down Morris Road at Bethany/Woodbridge border. Left at stopsign onto dirt road, second gated entrance on right. Fishing, hiking/running, horseback riding.
Good sized lake for the area, however boating is strictly forbidden. Gorgeous, peaceful surroundings (no houses), and wildlife abounds. The deer often tolerate people closeby. The fishing can be good for the experienced bass fisherman willing to hike around to the various small, scattered areas where casting is possible. These spots are often choked with brush so accurate casting, texas-rigged soft plastic baits, and at least 8lb test line are a must. I've caught a few 4-5lb bass and some good sized pickerel....
