Center Pond is a good lake in the vicinity of Iris Pond; a spree to Prospect Beach is always a splendid idea. Lake Wintergreen Dam is a site that is next to Iris Pond; if you want to go to some attention-grabbing stuff, go to Pine Rock. This lake is so wonderful. If you're going to Iris Pond from New Haven-Milford, you won't be the only one, and Beaver Pond Meadows is a swamp near Iris Pond. This lake is so wonderful. have a great hiking adventure along the Naugatuck Trail. If you're here at Iris Pond, you could stop by Belden Brook, and on a lovely day you can go to Sea Bluff Beach. For the duration of the warm days of summer highs here at
Iris Pond reach the 80's; the nighttime is a bit colder of course, usually in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are mostly in the 30's while Iris Pond overnight low temperatures throughout the winter are in the 10's. Iris Pond
is a good spot to visit for more than one day, Gentile's Camp Ground is a good spot to camp nearby, and Iris Pond is right by the Regicides Trail. Take a hike on the Quinnipiac Trail, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; Mount
Southington is reasonably near. This place rules, just look at all the amusing stuff to do close to Iris Pond. On a lovely day you acquire a view of Allington Hill from Iris Pond, and a wonderful lake like Lily Pond is a good site
to stop at. Iris Pond is a wet place that gets lots of rainfall; through May this area sees the most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.

Maltby Lake
 | Call the Regional Water Authority and ask for Anita in Recreation, 203-624-6671. She'll set you up with a permit. Or you can go online, www.rwater.com. Maltby Lakes are made up of three lakes located off of Route 34 in West Haven. The permit also gives you access to Lake Saltonstall and Lake Chamberlain for fishing. Lake Chamberlain
 | Access only with Regional Water Authority permit (25$/year). Off Rt. 69, turn down Morris Road at Bethany/Woodbridge border. Left at stopsign onto dirt road, second gated entrance on right. Fishing, hiking/running, horseback riding. Good sized lake for the area, however boating is strictly forbidden. Gorgeous, peaceful surroundings (no houses), and wildlife abounds. The deer often tolerate people closeby. The fishing can be good for the experienced bass fisherman willing to hike around to the various small, scattered areas where casting is possible. These spots are often choked with brush so accurate casting, texas-rigged soft plastic baits, and at least 8lb test line are a must. I've caught a few 4-5lb bass and some good sized pickerel.... |
