The panorama of Burwell Hill from Indian Lake is wonderful; going for a hike on the Regicides Trail is always a great adventure. This is no spot for people who don’t like to enjoy themselves. A spree to West Rock Ridge State Park when you're here at Indian Lake is never a bad idea, and don't leave Indian Lake without first going for a hike along the Naugatuck Trail. places to look at along the Quinnipiac Trail. A great nearby hotel is Courtyard New Haven Orange, and National Computer Camps is a tremendous campground nearby. An afternoon playing golf at Orange Hills Country Club is always
a joy, and hey, Oyster River is a splendid local stream. A lot of rain falls at Indian Lake; May is the wettest month with most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month. Throughout the warm days of summer here at Indian
Lake, high temperatures regularly reach the 80's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's; nighttime lows during the wintertime for Indian Lake tend to be in the 20's. That right
there is heaps already, but it goes on; Indian Lake has it all. Rose Mill Pond is a nearby lake that you could pop by, and you should certainly stop at beautiful Burwells Beach if you're here. This lake is so wonderful. There are swamps here too; Farley Swamp is nearby, and you can stay the night at Wildwood State Park.

Maltby Lake
 | Call the Regional Water Authority and ask for Anita in Recreation, 203-624-6671. She'll set you up with a permit. Or you can go online, www.rwater.com. Maltby Lakes are made up of three lakes located off of Route 34 in West Haven. The permit also gives you access to Lake Saltonstall and Lake Chamberlain for fishing. Lake Chamberlain
 | Access only with Regional Water Authority permit (25$/year). Off Rt. 69, turn down Morris Road at Bethany/Woodbridge border. Left at stopsign onto dirt road, second gated entrance on right. Fishing, hiking/running, horseback riding. Good sized lake for the area, however boating is strictly forbidden. Gorgeous, peaceful surroundings (no houses), and wildlife abounds. The deer often tolerate people closeby. The fishing can be good for the experienced bass fisherman willing to hike around to the various small, scattered areas where casting is possible. These spots are often choked with brush so accurate casting, texas-rigged soft plastic baits, and at least 8lb test line are a must. I've caught a few 4-5lb bass and some good sized pickerel.... |
