The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Mohawk Mountain; delightful hiking is available along the Mattatuck Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Lakes are such peaceful places, why not visit Hawkins Pond close to Hart Pond, and if you come at the right time of year, Shepaug River offers some delightful whitewater.
