A nice site for whitewater paddling close to Great Mountain Pond is East Aspetuck River; you can spend the day on the beach at Pine Ledge. Not far from Great Mountain Pond you get some glorious water scenery at Green Pond Dam, and camping is available at Buck's Rock Camp. Squantz Pond State Park is a pleasant spot, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.
