Furnace Pond is not the only spot close by, Ross Pond is a close by lake, and if you have time, Quinebaug & Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor is a national park worth stopping at. Furnace Pond sees pretty high levels of rainfall; November is the month that gets the most rain while February is usually the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. At Furnace Pond you can distinguish Half Hill; there are some tremendous whitewater spots on Quinebaug River. A spree to Mashamoquet Brook State Park invigorates the soul, and on a perfect day you can take a hike along the Border Trail. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Furnace Pond while overnight lows are frequently in the 50's.
