     This is a glorious region for people who like lakes. Barkhamsted Reservoir is a lake nearby, and you can go for a hike on the Mattatuck Trail. Richards Corner Dam is wonderful and it's right next door to Compensating Reservoir, and Residence Inn Hartford Avon is a delightful location to get some rest. All the water falling down from the sky makes Compensating Reservoir a wet place; all through the month of August you get the most rain around here, and January  
   is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Tunxis Trail is always a perfect adventure, and you can hit the slopes at Mount Southington around here.
If you come at the right time of year, Farmington River - Riverton offers some good whitewater, and you acquire a wonderful sight of Breezy Hill from here. American Legion State Forest is a nice campground nearby; since you're here at Compensating Reservoir, checking out Slashers
 
               Ledges is a must. Nearby lakes? Sure, Lake Mcdonough is near Compensating Reservoir, and Ski Sundown has delightful slopes and a friendly staff.
For the duration of the months of summer at Compensating Reservoir highs are commonly in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 50's. During the winter this place gets highs in the 20's with temperatures at Compensating Reservoir dipping down into the 10's throughout winter nights. And that's not all you can do here at Compensating Reservoir. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Farmington River, and a tour to Stratton Brook State Park invigorates the soul. That right there is lots already, but it carries on; Compensating Reservoir has it all. Stay the night at Austin Hawes Campground, and close by you discover the Metacomet Trail which is a great hiking trail.
This lake is so wonderful. Don't forget to take a good little tour to East Branch Farmington River, and dry warm beds await you at Simsbury Inn. During your spree to Compensating Reservoir you'll meet some people from Torrington for sure.
