    If you are traveling by, why not stop by Compensating Reservoir. This lake is so wonderful. East Branch Farmington River is one of the streams nearby that might be worth taking a look at, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Mattatuck Trail. For the period of the summertime at Compensating Reservoir highs are mostly in the 70's, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Throughout the winter the highs are usually in the 20's with temperatures  
   at Compensating Reservoir dipping down into the 10's during winter nights. This lake is so wonderful. A pretty lake like Barkhamsted Reservoir close to Compensating Reservoir is a nice place to have a look at, and the peak of Breezy Hill can be seen from Compensating Reservoir.
Now, you may imagine that's a heap but there's even more enjoyable stuff to do here at Compensating Reservoir. There's so much to do here at Compensating Reservoir that you need to
 
               camp here for a while, Austin Hawes Campground is a glorious location for that, and brilliant water scenery is available at Richards Corner Dam near Compensating Reservoir. There's nice hiking along the Metacomet Trail, and you'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Ski Sundown since you're here. In case you don’t have a problem getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Farmington River - Riverton, and when you're here it's always fun to take a look at Stratton Brook State Park.
The Tunxis Trail offers hiking at its best; you'll probably meet some people from Torrington here. Skiing at Mount Southington is one of those things you just have to do, and Slashers Ledges is an exciting location to take a look at while at Compensating Reservoir. Don't you try to stop me, cause I'm havin' a magnificent time here at Compensating Reservoir. Farmington River has a great whitewater paddling spot nearby, and after a long day outdoors Simsbury Inn is a great place to spend a night or two.
You'll need more than a day to discover everything Compensating Reservoir has to offer, you can camp at American Legion State Forest. Do stop by Collinsville Reservoir next to Compensating Reservoir, it's a beautiful lake, and Residence Inn By Marriott Hartford Avon is a tremendous location to get some rest. Compensating Reservoir sees pretty high levels of rain; August is when you get the most rain here; January meanwhile is the driest month.
