There's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Powder Ridge, and from Cold Spring Reservoir you acquire a perfect sight of Grant Hill. This lake is so wonderful. Camp Eagle Feather is a fine local campground, and do pop by Hartford Reservoir Number 6, it's a beautiful lake. This lake is so wonderful. Good hiking is available along the Metacomet Trail, and obviously Tumble Brook flows through this area. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Cold Spring

| | Reservoir; Mattabesset Trail is a fine local trail; a journey here wouldn’t be complete without a spree to nearby Talcott Mountain State Park. Cold Spring Reservoir is a tremendous site to visit for more than one day, Golden Acres Campground is a tremendous site to camp nearby, and you can hit the slopes at Mount Southington in the vicinity. Reservoir arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. Summer overnight lows plunge down to the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are regularly in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Cold Spring Reservoir are in the 0's.
Now, you may assume that's plenty but there's even more fun stuff to do here at Cold Spring Reservoir. After a long day outdoors Avon Old Farms is a tremendous place to spend a night or two, and why not take a refreshing hike along
the Tunxis Trail. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy this site. If you don’t have a problem getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Farmington River - Collinsville; if you're visiting from Hartford-West
Hartford-East Hartford, you won't be the only one. A brilliant location for whitewater paddling near Cold Spring Reservoir is Farmington River; you'll come across a wonderful lake called Gale Pond. Wintonbury Hills Golf Course is a pleasant golf course nearby.

Metacomet Trail
 | I finally located the trail entrance about 20 feet past a dirt road gate on the right that I had been using to get to the ridge line. Thanks for the help!...Gene, The trailhead at 315 and 189 is actually on Mountain Road which comes off the Rd right at the juncture. The telphone poles are blazed and the trail breaks into the woods about halfway up on the right side of the road. That is a nice section of trail although we hiked it in the rain. Happy Trails....I am having difficulty locating the trail head in East Granby at rtes. 315 and 189 that leads to south toward Penwood State Park. The trail maps say that the trail head is on Mountain Road, but there are no blue/yellow blazed trail markers on either of the two entry points into the woods. The only indication of the trail is the sign post at the bottom of the road in the three way intersection. Thanks.... |
