     There are some good whitewater spots on Bantam River; Chanko Pond is a spot with many visitors from New Haven-Milford. This lake is so wonderful. Towantic Pond Dam is worth a visit if you're here; Chanko Pond is in close proximity to Southford Falls State Park which is a pretty place. Black Rock State Park is a great campground nearby, and there's whitewater on Shepaug River for all you adrenaline junkies. If you need a spot to stay Hampton Inn Waterbury is  
   a perfect choice.
And if that's not enough, there's heaps more to do in close proximity to Chanko Pond. A golf course near Chanko Pond is Golf Club at Oxford, and you'll come across a beautiful lake called Seymour Reservoir Number 4. The high level of precipitation makes Chanko Pond a reasonably wet place; during the month of August you get the most rain around here, and February is when it's the driest.                temperatures usually get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 50's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Chanko Pond are in the 10's.
This lake is so wonderful. There are great places to explore along the Mattatuck Trail; the snow is good at Woodbury. High Rock is an attention-grabbing thing to observe if you're here at Chanko Pond, and going for a hike on the Regicides Trail is always a perfect adventure. Do stop by Towantic Pond next to Chanko Pond, it's a gorgeous lake; if you came for an overnight stay Branchbrook Campground is a fine place to camp.
If only every site had this much outdoors entertaining stuff, what a great earth it would be. A day on the slopes of Mount Southington is just what you need, and close by you come across the Naugatuck Trail which is a glorious hiking trail. Andrews Hill is simple to spot from Chanko Pond, and after a long day outdoors Comfort Inn Naugatuck is a good place to spend a night or two.
