Butternut Pond if you go for the outdoors. Butternut Pond is not the only place close by, Starr Millpond is a close by lake, and Wadsworth Falls State Park is a good location to stretch your legs a bit. Butternut Pond is a great location
to visit for more than one day, Camp Eagle Feather is a great location to camp nearby, and swamps can be such attention-grabbing spots, stop at Boggy Meadow while you're here at Butternut Pond. This lake is so wonderful. Really
fine skiing awaits you at Mount Southington. While you're here at Butternut Pond you can take a hike along the Mattabesset Trail, and if you need a site to stay Passport Inn and Suites Middletown is a glorious choice. There's just
no way anybody can get bored here at Butternut Pond. Inn At Middletown is a brilliant location to get some rest, and going for a hike along the Washington Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood.

Metacomet Trail
 | 14 miles away I finally located the trail entrance about 20 feet past a dirt road gate on the right that I had been using to get to the ridge line. Thanks for the help!...Gene, The trailhead at 315 and 189 is actually on Mountain Road which comes off the Rd right at the juncture. The telphone poles are blazed and the trail breaks into the woods about halfway up on the right side of the road. That is a nice section of trail although we hiked it in the rain. Happy Trails....I am having difficulty locating the trail head in East Granby at rtes. 315 and 189 that leads to south toward Penwood State Park. The trail maps say that the trail head is on Mountain Road, but there are no blue/yellow blazed trail markers on either of the two entry points into the woods. The only indication of the trail is the sign post at the bottom of the road in the three way intersection. Thanks.... |
