Not far from Bugbee Reservoir you can enjoy the trees of Mooneys Woods, and Bugbee Reservoir is brilliant enough to spend more than a day at, Golden Acres Campground is a brilliant local campground. A magnificent close by hotel is Courtyard Hartford Farmington, and Bugbee Reservoir is not far at all from Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford. This lake is so wonderful. Very beautiful scenery and brilliant skiing is what you get at Mount Southington, and let's not forget Trout Brook which is a stream that you may run into while you're here. And if that's not sufficient, there's heaps more to do right next door to Bugbee Reservoir. | |

Go for a hike on the Mattabesset Trail; in case you don’t have a problem getting soaked, you can always go whitewater paddling on Farmington River - Collinsville. Homewood Suites by Hilton HartfordFarmington is a brilliant place to
get some rest; Farmington River is a good whitewater spot close by. You could also stop by Cornerstone Pool if you're here at Bugbee Reservoir; it's close by, and there are great places to look at along the Metacomet Trail. When
you're here at Bugbee Reservoir it's always fun to pop by Talcott Mountain State Park; swamps like Spice Bush Swamp right next door to Bugbee Reservoir make for magnificent locations to pop by. This lake is so wonderful. What would
winter be without some skiing at Powder Ridge; why not take a look at Bugbee Reservoir Dam while you're here. Summertime highs at Bugbee Reservoir ordinarily tend to be in the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in
the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Bugbee Reservoir. Bugbee Reservoir is a rather wet place regularly with a lot of rain; the month of May is the wettest
with most of the rain, and February is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. Don't leave Bugbee Reservoir without first going for a hike along the Tunxis Trail, and a lake close by is Talcott Reservoir.

Metacomet Trail
 | I finally located the trail entrance about 20 feet past a dirt road gate on the right that I had been using to get to the ridge line. Thanks for the help!...Gene, The trailhead at 315 and 189 is actually on Mountain Road which comes off the Rd right at the juncture. The telphone poles are blazed and the trail breaks into the woods about halfway up on the right side of the road. That is a nice section of trail although we hiked it in the rain. Happy Trails....I am having difficulty locating the trail head in East Granby at rtes. 315 and 189 that leads to south toward Penwood State Park. The trail maps say that the trail head is on Mountain Road, but there are no blue/yellow blazed trail markers on either of the two entry points into the woods. The only indication of the trail is the sign post at the bottom of the road in the three way intersection. Thanks.... |
