     While you're here at Black Shop Pond you will meet lots of folks from close by Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford. Lakes? Sure, Upper Pond is close at hand. If you came for an overnight stay Little City Campground is a pleasant location to camp; get yourself into a kayak and hit Hammonasset River. This lake is so wonderful. There is a wonderful hiking trail right next door to Black Shop Pond called the Mattabesset Trail, and a golf course close by is Portland  
   Golf Course. This lake is so wonderful. Bear Hill is beautiful and can be seen from Black Shop Pond; dry warm beds await you at Inn At Middletown.
The Washington Trail is a delightful hiking trail near Black Shop Pond, and there are some good whitewater spots on Roaring Brook River. If you want a good time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Black Shop Pond. On a perfect day at Black Shop Pond you can take a hike along the Mattabesset Trail; if you
 
               need a spot to stay Passport Inn and Suites Middletown is a perfect choice. Hurd State Park is worth stopping at if you're at Black Shop Pond, and Nelson's Family Campground is a great local campground.
Upper Pond Dam is a scenic site close to Black Shop Pond, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Powder Ridge. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the fun things at Black Shop Pond. Bell Shop Pond is a fine lake near Black Shop Pond; hey, Bible Rock Brook is a glorious local stream.
Throughout the months of summer, highs usually are in the 80's at Black Shop Pond while nighttime lows are usually in the 50's. During the winter this place gets highs in the 30's while Black Shop Pond nighttime low temperatures during the winter are in the 10's. The high level of rain makes Black Shop Pond a reasonably wet spot; May is the wettest month with most rain, and February is when it's the driest.
