This lake is so wonderful. Bear Hill is beautiful and can be seen from Black Shop Pond; dry warm beds await you at Inn At Middletown. The Washington Trail is a delightful hiking trail near Black Shop Pond, and there are some good whitewater spots on Roaring Brook River. If you want a good time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Black Shop Pond. On a perfect day at Black Shop Pond you can take a hike along the Mattabesset Trail; if you                  need a spot to stay Passport Inn and Suites Middletown is a perfect choice. Hurd State Park is worth stopping at if you're at Black Shop Pond, and Nelson's Family Campground is a great local campground. Upper Pond Dam is a scenic site close to Black Shop Pond, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Powder Ridge.
