High temperatures at Bishops Pond through the months of summer are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 50's. Pond you stumble on a golf course called Orange Hills Country Club, and during your journey here you'll meet some folks from New Haven-Milford for sure. You assume that's enough? Just getting warmed up. Here at Bishops Pond you
can catch a glimpse of Baldwin Hill; you can always enjoy a lazy day on the beach at Prospect Beach. Life's too short to enjoy all the cool things close to Bishops Pond. A nice close by hotel is Econo Lodge Conference Center; a day
on the slopes of Woodbury is just what you need. Bishops Pond usually gets much rainfall; the month with most of the rain is May, and the driest month of the year is February. Bishops Pond is not the only spot close by, Konolds
Pond is a close by lake, and you can hit the beach if you want, Sea Bluff Beach is practically right here. There's glorious hiking along the Quinnipiac Trail; if you came for an overnight stay Branchbrook Campground is a glorious spot to camp.

Maltby Lake
 | Call the Regional Water Authority and ask for Anita in Recreation, 203-624-6671. She'll set you up with a permit. Or you can go online, www.rwater.com. Maltby Lakes are made up of three lakes located off of Route 34 in West Haven. The permit also gives you access to Lake Saltonstall and Lake Chamberlain for fishing. Lake Chamberlain
 | Access only with Regional Water Authority permit (25$/year). Off Rt. 69, turn down Morris Road at Bethany/Woodbridge border. Left at stopsign onto dirt road, second gated entrance on right. Fishing, hiking/running, horseback riding. Good sized lake for the area, however boating is strictly forbidden. Gorgeous, peaceful surroundings (no houses), and wildlife abounds. The deer often tolerate people closeby. The fishing can be good for the experienced bass fisherman willing to hike around to the various small, scattered areas where casting is possible. These spots are often choked with brush so accurate casting, texas-rigged soft plastic baits, and at least 8lb test line are a must. I've caught a few 4-5lb bass and some good sized pickerel.... |
