Whitewater paddling is pleasant on Bantam River, and if you need a place to stay Homestead Inn is a perfect choice. Man, is there a load of exciting things to do close to Bates Pond. Dry warm beds await you at The Mayflower Inn & Spa, and close by you come across the Appalachian National Scenic Trail which is a glorious hiking trail. The yearly precipitation       here at Bates Pond is about average; the month of June is the wettest with most of the rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy this location. Bates Pond is a delightful site to visit for more than one day, Looking Glass Hill Campgrounds is a delightful site to camp nearby; Shepaug River has a great whitewater paddling spot nearby. Marks Hollow is a wonderful site to spend some time at, and going for a hike on the Mattatuck Trail is always a splendid adventure. At Bates Pond you can see Above All, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Woodbury. High temperatures at Bates Pond throughout the summertime are in the 80's. Summer overnight lows drop down to the 50's. For the duration of the wintertime highs are generally in the 30's; throughout the dark hours in the winter at Bates Pond temperatures drop to the 10's. If you get bored of Bates Pond, you could also take a look at close by Quist Pond, and Lake Waramaug is a nearby lake that you could explore.
