Maltby Lakes are made up of three lakes located off of Route 34 in West Haven. The permit also gives you access to Lake Saltonstall and Lake Chamberlain for fishing. | 14 miles away Access only with Regional Water Authority permit (25$/year). Off Rt. 69, turn down Morris Road at Bethany/Woodbridge border. Left at stopsign onto dirt road, second gated entrance on right. Fishing, hiking/running, horseback riding. Good sized lake for the area, however boating is strictly forbidden. Gorgeous, peaceful surroundings (no houses), and wildlife abounds. The deer often tolerate people closeby. The fishing can be good for the experienced bass fisherman willing to hike around to the various small, scattered areas where casting is possible. These spots are often choked with brush so accurate casting, texas-rigged soft plastic baits, and at least 8lb test line are a must. I've caught a few 4-5lb bass and some good sized pickerel.... |

 | 19 miles away We hiked the Mattatuck from Buttermilk Falls to the southeast toward Wolcott with the expectation of finding Indian Jack?s Cave and Ledge. As always, Buttermilk was great with several inches of ice and numerous icicles this cool morning. About « mile past Buttermilk Falls, the trail connects to the old Tolles-Wolcott Road in the Indian Heaven area. We could not find the trail on the east side of the road. There was a house with a mean old dog where we believe the trail goes, but a neighbor recommended not going near the area because of the dog. Never found Indian Jack?s.... |
