Brush Shop Pond next to Augurs Ice Pond is a tremendous place to pop by, and the summit of North Hill can be seen from Augurs Ice Pond. What a place this is for outdoors folks. Very wonderful scenery and great skiing is what you get
at Powder Ridge, and going for a hike on the West Woods Trail is always a tremendous adventure. All through the summer months at Augurs Ice Pond highs are usually in the 80's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. Highs
throughout the winter are typically in the 30's while Augurs Ice Pond overnight low temperatures during the winter are in the 10's. Augurs Ice Pond gets much water; the month with most of the rain is May; the driest month of the
year is February. This lake is so wonderful. Camping at Little City Campground is always a tremendous experience. This lake is so wonderful. Augurs Ice Pond is wonderful enough to spend more than a day at, Hammonasset Beach State
Park is a wonderful local campground, and in case you don’t have a problem getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Hammonasset River.

Left at stopsign onto dirt road, second gated entrance on right. Fishing, hiking/running, horseback riding. Good sized lake for the area, however boating is strictly forbidden. Gorgeous, peaceful surroundings (no houses), and wildlife abounds. The deer often tolerate people closeby. The fishing can be good for the experienced bass fisherman willing to hike around to the various small, scattered areas where casting is possible. These spots are often choked with brush so accurate casting, texas-rigged soft plastic baits, and at least 8lb test line are a must. I've caught a few 4-5lb bass and some good sized pickerel.... |
