Do pop by Lake Winnemaug near Atwood Pond, it's a charming lake, and if you're visiting from Torrington, you won't be the only one. Lake Winnemaug Dam has glorious water scenery and       it's close to Atwood Pond, and spots like Buell Flats are brilliant to stop at. This lake is so wonderful. From Atwood Pond you get a good sight of Breakneck Hill; everyone nearby loves skiing at Woodbury. You feel that's enough? Just getting warmed up. If the weather is good here at Atwood Pond, you can go for a hike along the Mattatuck Trail; the slopes of Mount Southington are so inviting nobody can resist. This lake is so wonderful. On a glorious day at                  Atwood Pond you can take a hike along the Naugatuck Trail, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Shepaug River. Summertime highs at Atwood Pond typically tend to be in the 70's. All through the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's while Atwood Pond night low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 10's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Atwood Pond a wet spot; throughout the month of June you get the most rain around here, and February meanwhile is the driest month. A visit to Black Rock State Park rejuvenates the spirit, and swamps like Miry Swamp in the neighborhood of Atwood Pond make for magnificent places to stop at. This lake is so wonderful. Why not camp at Branchbrook Campground if you're here at Atwood Pond; if you come at the right time of year, Bantam River offers some good whitewater.
