Sanchez Stabilizing Dam is striking and it's next to Stabilization Reservoir, and a day on the slopes of Red River is just what you need. This lake is so wonderful. Stay the night at Smith Reservoir State Wildlife Area, unsurprisingly you could also stop by Eastdale Reservoir Number 2 since you're here; it's not far at all. Sanchez Reservoir is a good campground nearby, and there are plenty of people from San Luis here. The warmest time of the year at Stabilization
Reservoir arrives with high temperatures in the 80's, and the overnight is somewhat chillier of course, ordinarily in the 40's.
This is a super beautiful reservoir fed by the Culebra Creek, which has fantastic fly fishing of Rainbow,Brown and Cuthroat Trout 24-26 inch in size. It is just 4 miles South of the Town of San Luis off of Hwy 159 and across the Hwy from the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It is a favorite hangout of a herd of wild horses w/their adorable young babies. This picture is taken at night during sunset.
