There's so much to do here at South Zapata Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Pinyon Flats Campground is a good place for that; there's magnificent hiking along the Strawberry Trail. What a spot this is for outdoors folks. Don't leave South Zapata Lake without first going for a hike along the Huerfano Trail; probably you're looking for close by lakes? Sure, Blue Lakes is just a very       short distance away. This lake is so wonderful. A journey to Great Sand Dunes National Monument is recommended; do stop at North Fork South Zapata Creek while you're here at South Zapata Lake. Now, you may imagine that's a load but there's even more exciting stuff to do here in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Dry warm beds await you at Inn of the Rio Grande Hotel and Conference Ctr. At South Zapata Lake through the warm months highs are in the 80's. Summer                  overnight lows sink down to the 50's. For the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's, and nighttime lows in the 0's for South Zapata Lake.
