Thorn bushes and trash cover what little trail is easy to navigate. Trail disappears completely before you actually reach the lake. Also it appears that an axe murderer has taken up residence in the upperwoods. Be careful and travel in large groups if you plan to try and make it to the lake. This place is peerless, just explore all the exciting stuff to do near South Crestone Lake. Good hiking is available along the Rito Alto Trail; unsurprisingly Lake Fork North Crestone Creek flows through this vicinity. South Crestone Lake is one of the lakes here in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. From South Crestone Lake you get a glorious view of Mount Adams, and if you get bored of South Crestone Lake you could       also visit close by Macey Lake. This lake is so wonderful. If you came to camp Grape Creek RV Park and Campground is a good site to do that, and if time allows, Great Sand Dunes National Monument is a national park worth taking a look at. All year is a fine time in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains if you like the outdoors. There's so much to do here at South Crestone Lake that you need to camp here for a while, North Crestone Campground is a great place for                  that, and Venable Lakes is a nearby lake that you could take a look at. This lake is so wonderful. Life's too short to enjoy all the enjoyable stuff in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Going for a hike on the Loop Trail is always a great adventure; South Crestone Lake lays in the shadow of the Sangre De Cristo Range. High temperatures at South Crestone Lake through the warm days of summer are in the 80's with overnight lows in the 40's. For the duration of the winter the highs are typically in the 30's, and overnight lows at South Crestone Lake throughout the wintertime typically sink into the 0's.
