If you adore the outdoors, you'll fancy Smith Reservoir. There is a delightful hiking trail in the neighborhood of Smith Reservoir called the Huerfano Trail, and a nice place to camp here at Smith Reservoir is Ute Creek RV Park. Smith Reservoir gets very little rain; July is the wettest month with most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest. This lake is so wonderful. On a great day at Smith Reservoir       you can take a hike along the Ute Trail, and there's always Smith Dam to have a look at next to Smith Reservoir. High temperatures at Smith Reservoir all through the warmest time of the year are in the 80's, and all through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. During the winter highs are mostly in the 30's with temperatures at Smith Reservoir dipping down into the-10's all through winter nights. Great Sand Dunes National Monument is a brilliant national                  park, and as expected Sangre de Cristo Creek flows through this vicinity. Near Smith Reservoir you come across the Strawberry Trail which is a glorious hiking trail, and after a long day outdoors Inn of the Rio Grande Hotel and Conference Ctr is a fine place to spend a night or two.
