Go to Scotts Lake if you want to go to a nice lake. Scotts Lake is typically a relatively dry place; the wettest month of the year is frequently March, that's the one that snows the most while June is commonly the driest month. High temperatures at Scotts Lake all through the months of summer are in the 80's while overnight lows are generally in the 40's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Scotts Lake are
in the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. On a beautiful day you acquire a panorama of Himes Peak from Scotts Lake, and White River - North Fork is a tremendous whitewater spot close by.
If you don’t have a problem getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Sweetwater Creek, and probably you're looking for nearby lakes? Sure, Trappers Lake is just a very short distance away. This lake is so wonderful. Trapline Campground is a magnificent local campground.

You imagine that's enough? Just getting warmed up. A pleasant tour to Amphitheatre is a nice way to spend an afternoon, and Oak Tree Inn Yampa is a great place to get some rest.
Looking for some flowing water? Try Fraser Creek, and going for a hike on the Ute Trail is always a good adventure. You could also stop at Crescent Lake since you're here at Scotts Lake; it's close by, and there are wonderful places to look at along the South Derby Trail. Why not camp at Bucks Campground if you're here at Scotts Lake; there is a great hiking trail nearby called the Oyster Lake Trail.

I've been going to Yampa since I was around 5 years of age. I'm not usually too keen on seeing new hotels being established in sleepy mountain towns, but The Oak Tree Inn is an exception. It's a welcome addition to this amazing little town and a great retreat when the snows come....

Yamcolo Reservoir

located at the foot of Blair Mountain Adams Lake is well worth the trip. Definatly a 4 wheel drive Jeep Trail but only a few miles from Elk lakes, Jet lake, Shadow Lake, Blair lakes , Crater Lake, Deep lake and bison lake. Lots of Cut throat trout, rainbows and browns. Most deffinatly more than a one day trip. Always plan for all kinds of weather, and definitely tent camping only....
