The winter brings highs down to the 30's; during the dark hours in the wintertime at Russell Reservoir temperatures plunge to the-10's. But wait, there's more to do in close proximity       to Russell Reservoir. If the weather is pretty, you get a magnificent view of Pete Hills from Russell Reservoir; Russell Reservoir is right by the Apishapa Trail. The Pete Hills is one of the things that make Russell Reservoir so great, and why not take a refreshing hike along the West Peak Trail. If you like the outdoors you'll like it here in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Camping at Potato Patch Campground is always a glorious experience, and great skiing awaits you at Eldora. At Russell Reservoir you don’t see much rain; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and the driest month of the year is January. Near Russell Reservoir you find good sites like Deadman Canyon, and hiking along the Wade Trail is tremendous fun. This lake is so wonderful.
