The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Rock Lake. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's while Rock Lake overnight low temperatures all through the winter are in the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Purgatory Village Condominium Hotel. There's great hiking along the Whitehead       Trail, and Betty Lake is a nearby lake that you could check out. And that's not all you can do here at Rock Lake. The Deer Park Trail offers hiking at its best, and while you're here, you could also explore wonderful Half Moon Lake. That right there is plenty of entertaining stuff already but it goes on, the San Juan and Jemez Mountains has it all. Kendall Mountain has glorious slopes and a friendly staff, and on a delightful day you obtain a fine panorama of                  Buffalo Peak from Rock Lake. You'll truly wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the cool stuff in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. If you come at the right time of year, Animas River offers some brilliant whitewater. There's so much to do here at Rock Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Vallecito Campground is a brilliant spot for that. This lake is so wonderful. Really fine skiing awaits you at Silverton, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Vallecito Creek. Rock Lake is right by the Pine-Piedra Stock Driveway; if you came to camp Pine River Campground is a great site to do that.
