If you are in Grand county it's always a good idea to stop by Rock Creek Reservoir. Rock Creek Dam is an interesting thing to check out, and lakes are such serene locations, why not explore Williams Fork Reservoir. This lake is so wonderful. The Hay Park Trail is a great hiking trail right next door to Rock Creek Reservoir; close by you hit upon the Elk Mountain Trail which is a brilliant hiking trail. There are some great whitewater spots on Colorado River;

| | a good close by hotel is Summit at SilverCreek. This lake is located in the wonderful Park Range. What a location this is for outdoors folks. If you come at the right time of year, Williams Fork offers some fine whitewater, and if you came to camp Red Mountain RV Park is a brilliant place to do that. to check out Rock Creek. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Siebert Creek Trail is always a wonderful adventure. There's so much to do here at Rock Creek Reservoir that you need to camp here for a while, Gilbert Campground
is a good place for that. Around Rock Creek Reservoir you don’t get a lot of rainfall; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and February on the other hand is the driest. During the summertime at Rock
Creek Reservoir highs are typically in the 80's. All through the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 40's. Through the winter highs are in the 20's with temperatures at Rock Creek Reservoir dipping down into the-10's all through winter nights.

 | 14 miles away Well, exhilarating or not, you may want to consider parking your tent and self away from trees. The forests in the Gore and elsewhere in Colorado are dying, particularly and immediately the pines. The aspens are dealing plague also, but of a fungi and bacterial nature. Do NOT camp near trees.......E NEVER BEEN MORE SCARED IN MY LIFE! We set up our tents just before dark as the rain was really starting to come down. The forecast predicted a few small isolated showers along the Continental Davide, earlier in the day. Isolated my ass- it rained hard for about 6 or 7 hours!!! It was around 10pm when I was awaken by a VERY unfamiliar loud crackling, popping, and snapping sound. I've never in my life heard anything that closely resembled the sounds I was hearing. The first one that woke me & lasted about 30 seconds, the next came about 5 minutes later and lasted a few seconds longer. This time after the same noises as before ended, there was a horrific crashing sound that shook the area where my tent was pitched. That's when I realized the tree's were falling due to the rain softening the soil around the Tree roots. I thought for sure one of the up-rooted tree's were going to crush me & my tent like a Grape. God must have lent a helping hand because in the morning we counted 17 tree's that fell. One of the 40 foot tree's landed w/ in 20ft of my tent. That was the one that nearly ... |
