Near Rainbow Lake you hit upon the Ute Trail which is a glorious hiking trail. There's so much to do here at Rainbow Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Baughn Lake Campground is a great location for that. After a long day outdoors Nordic Lodge of Steamboat is a nice place to spend a night or two. This lake is so wonderful. There are good spots to look at along the High Trail; Rainbow Lake is fine enough       to spend more than a day at, Bucks Campground is a fine local campground. It is very dehydrated here at Rainbow Lake mostly; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most snow, and June is the month with the least moisture. Oak Tree Inn Yampa is a glorious place to get some rest, and a nice location nearby is Yellowjacket Pass. You could also have a look at Camel Lake since you're here at Rainbow Lake; it's nearby, and an attention-grabbing                  thing to take a look at near Rainbow Lake is Sheriff Dam. And if that's not sufficient, there's loads more to do near Rainbow Lake. Going for a hike on the South Derby Trail is always a wonderful adventure, and it's a perfect idea to explore Sand Creek. For the duration of the months of summer highs here at Rainbow Lake get into the 80's with night lows in the 40's.
