Do stop by Potato Lake while you're in this part of Colorado. The San Juan and Jemez Mountains scenery is always beautiful. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Potato Lake; Highline Trail is a nice local trail; you can stay the night at Lime Creek Campground.
This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Potato Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Purgatory Campground is a wonderful place for that; whitewater paddling is glorious on

A great close by hotel is Purgatory Lodge by Durango Mountain Resorts, and the top of Coal Bank Hill is easily distinguished from Potato Lake. The warmest time of the year at Potato Lake comes with high temperatures in the 70's, and the nighttime is slightly chillier of course, generally in the 40's. But wait, there's more fun things to do in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. Getting to Crater Creek from Potato Lake is painless, and paddling on Animas River
is so much fun. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Circle Trail, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; Silverton is pretty near. This lake is so wonderful. Take a hike on the Deer Park Trail, and if you need a site to stay

Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. Kendall Mountain is a great local ski area, and there are other places here than Potato Lake, for
example Boyce Lake. Potato Lake is regularly a relatively dried out place; most of the rain falls during August; the driest month of the year is June.
