Do stop by Pheney Reservoir while you're in this part of Colorado. The Park Range scenery is always beautiful. But wait, there's more fun stuff to do in the Park Range. During your trip to Pheney Reservoir you'll meet some people from Silverthorne for sure, and Pheney Reservoir is great enough to spend more than a day at, Willows Campground is a great local campground. And that's not all you can do here at Pheney Reservoir. Vail Racquet Club Condominiums is
a perfect place to get some rest; why not take a look at Pheney Dam if you're here.
This lake is so wonderful. A delightful close by hotel is Silverthorne Days Inn; the Eaglesmere Trail is a delightful hiking trail close by. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Park Range. Pheney Reservoir is not the only spot nearby, Williams Fork Reservoir is a nearby lake, and close by you stumble on the Williams Peak Trail which is a glorious hiking trail. This lake

is so wonderful. A good spot to camp here at Pheney Reservoir is Red Mountain RV Park.
A lake nearby is Taussig Reservoir Number 1, and Williams Fork has a wonderful whitewater paddling spot close by. Pheney Reservoir gets very little rainfall; most of the rain falls through August, and February is the month with the least moisture. Summertime highs at Pheney Reservoir regularly tend to be in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 40's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Pheney Reservoir are in the-10's.
On a good day at Pheney Reservoir you can take a hike along the Surprise Trail, and in case you don’t mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Blue River.

Gore Range Trail
11 miles away
Well, exhilarating or not, you may want to consider parking your tent and self away from trees.  The forests in the Gore and elsewhere in Colorado are dying, particularly and immediately the pines.  The aspens are dealing plague also, but of a fungi and bacterial nature.  Do NOT camp near trees.......MY LIFE! We set up our tents just before dark as the rain was really starting to come down. The forecast predicted a few small isolated showers along the Continental Davide, earlier in the day. Isolated my ass- it rained hard for about 6 or 7 hours!!! It was around 10pm when I was awaken by a VERY unfamiliar loud crackling, popping, and snapping sound. I've never in my life heard anything that closely resembled the sounds I was hearing. The first one that woke me & lasted about 30 seconds, the next came about 5 minutes later and lasted a few seconds longer. This time after the same noises as before ended, there was a horrific crashing sound that shook the area where my tent was pitched. That's when I realized the tree's were falling due to the rain softening the soil around the Tree roots. I thought for  sure one of the up-rooted tree's were going to crush  me & my tent like a Grape. God must have lent a helping hand because in the morning we counted 17 tree's  that fell. One of the 40 foot tree's landed w/ in 20ft of my tent. That was the one that nearly made me soil my pants..........

Upper Piney Lake

We had a great time hiking to Upper Piney Lake over 4th of July weekend, 2006. Although the views are out of this world, the hike will take everything out of you that you've got. I would highly recommend this hike. Make sure you have everything you need for AT LEAST 2 days. The hike to Upper Piney will take 8 hours (all up hill)...But only 4 hours to get back to Piney River Ranch....

There's also a dining hall, Seven Trails Grille and Higher Grounds Coffee Shop to keep you fueled for your adventures.
We have totally redesigned the Base Camp Lodge! We have added 5000 sq ft to the building, expanded the deck seating by 2500 sq ft and paved the parking lot.
