Steve Hudson: I was raised near this lake and when a child we had to pack horses into this lake. It is not near any campgrounds, and it's over 25 miles to town, not 18. It gets way colder than 0 in the winter but the views are almost correct. It IS beautiful!

Opal Lake is a nice lake to visit. Opal Lake is a beautiful lake in the San Juan Mountains. There's just no way someone can get bored here at Opal Lake. On a wonderful day you obtain a view of Flattop Mountain from Opal Lake, and after a long day outdoors Oak Ridge Lodge is a tremendous spot to spend a night or two. Life's too short to enjoy all the entertaining stuff in the San Juan Mountains. Castle Creek is a stream that you may run into while here, and

| | the Fish Creek Trail offers hiking at its best. Opal Lake is right by the Fish Lake Trail, and glide down the rapids of San Juan River - East Fork in a kayak. So many entertaining things in the San Juan Mountains, just amazing. Opal Lake is a tremendous site to camp, Blanco River Campground is a tremendous site. spot to get some rest. During the summer months here at Opal Lake, high temperatures regularly reach the 80's. Summer nighttime lows descend down to the 40's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's with temperatures
at Opal Lake dipping down into the 0's through winter nights. This lake is so wonderful. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Opal Lake has to offer, you can camp at Acres Green RV Park, and get yourself into a kayak
and hit Rio Blanco. Opal Lake is pretty dried out regularly; most of the rain falls during August, and the driest month is June.
