Sure, Hilkey Pond is close to Monument Lake, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Monument Lake; Grassy Lake Trail is a brilliant       local trail. During the warm months here at Monument Lake, high temperatures usually get into the 90's, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. For the duration of the wintertime highs are commonly in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Monument Lake. This lake is one of the great places here in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains. But wait, there's more fun stuff to do in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains. Go for                  a hike on the Telephone Draw Trail, and San Miguel River is a fine whitewater spot close by. Good hiking is available along the Ray Trail, and Monument Lake is a pleasant location to visit for more than one day, Smokehouse Campground is a pleasant location to camp nearby. Monument Lake gets very little rainfall; the month with most of the rain is October, and June on the other hand is the driest. Stay the night at Antone Spring Campground; if you need a place to stay Best Western Sundance is a delightful choice. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains.
