Shaft Draw is near Montez Reservoir and is definitely a great location to go to, and you can stay the night at Great Sand Dunes Oasis. Going for a hike on the Huerfano Trail is always a magnificent adventure, and a nice nearby hotel is Alamosa-Days Inn. At Montez Reservoir you don’t see much precipitation; August is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month of       the year is January. Through the months of summer here at Montez Reservoir, high temperatures ordinarily reach the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Montez Reservoir descend into the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. Good hiking is available along the Strawberry Trail, and Montez Reservoir is a fine place to visit for                  more than one day, Pinyon Flats Campground is a fine place to camp nearby. This lake is one of the great places here in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. This is no place for people who don’t like to have fun. So much enjoyable stuff in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains, just phenomenal.
